Product Introduction
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's new submarine, the Soryu, is the first domestically produced submarine equipped with an AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) system.
To enhance stealth, the hull and sail are covered with sound-absorbing tiles, and the rudder employs an X-shaped rudder, which provides high underwater maneuverability and reduces the risk of damage.
It also features a streamlining fillet at the front of the sail, giving it a distinctive appearance unlike existing vessels.
Of the 12 Soryu-class submarines, the 11th, Oryu, and the 12th, Toryu, commissioned in 2020, are equipped with an AIP system and lithium-ion batteries instead of lead-acid batteries, further improving their underwater operational capabilities.
