Product Introduction
Following on from its predecessor, the Chidori-class, the Kou-class was a redesigned torpedo boat following the lessons learned from the Tomozuru Incident (the capsizing of the Chidori-class torpedo boat Tomozuru). The first boat, the Kou, was completed in October 1936 (Showa 11).
With a standard displacement of 840 tons and equipped with three 12cm single-barreled guns and one Type 94 triple 53cm torpedo tube, as well as a depth charge projector for anti-submarine use, the ship's dimensions were distinct from those of previous torpedo boats and could be described as a small destroyer.
