In 1972, during the latter stages of the Vietnam War, the U.S. Air Force resumed its "North Bombing" campaign and conducted large-scale air operations.
During this period, Captain Cunningham and Lieutenant Driscoll shot down five enemy fighters, becoming the first U.S. Navy aces of the Vietnam War.
The aircraft they piloted when they shot down three enemy fighters in a single mission and became "aces" had the radio call number "Showtime 100."
