◆Special points of the Buddha statue supervised by the great Buddhist sculptor Hokari Koudou◆
<A peaceful and gentle face>
The Buddha's peaceful, warm and gentle gaze gives you a sense of relief.
Furthermore, her beautiful, slender eyebrows and long, narrow eyes, like those of a new moon, give off a sense of noble dignity.
The mudra (hand gesture) of the Mahavairocana statue is the wisdom fist mudra, in which the index finger of the left hand is raised and wrapped around the right hand.
It means the elimination of all worldly desires and ignorance and the wisdom of Buddha (the highest enlightenment).
<Halo representing the Buddha’s halo>
The Buddha radiates a ray of light from his body and is always surrounded by light.
This light is expressed by the halo, and the halo of the Dainichi Nyorai statue is a flame halo.
As you can imagine from its shape, the flame halo is carved with a burning flame and a large sun within it.
The halo represents Mahavairocana, the king of all Buddhas.
<A pedestal that highlights the craftsmanship of the master>
The pedestal of the Buddha statue is a lotus seat, which is carved with a lotus flower in full bloom.
The lotus flower, which grows out of muddy water and blossoms into a beautiful, pure flower, is considered a symbol of Buddha's wisdom and compassion.
In order to express the curled-back appearance of the petals (hanbana), a technique called "fukirenga" is used to carefully attach each petal one by one to create a beautiful, three-dimensional base.
