Kakami Island is the island closest to the sky.

This island is home to Lake Mizukyo, which reflects the sky like a mirror, and Kakami Academy, home to its symbolic, towering cherry blossom tree.

Kuboshi Souma, a student at Kakami Academy, leads a lively yet fun school life with his childhood friend and inseparable friend, the queenly Yasaka Ainoa, his older sister Tonesaka Yukina, who is also the student council president, the out-of-reach young lady Shirakawa Akari, Ainoa's younger sister Yasaka Kako, who looks up to him like a brother, and the mysterious insider Suginami.

At Kakami Academy, there is a mysterious cherry tree affectionately known by the students as the "Cherry Blossom of Thought Balance." This cherry tree indicates the student's consensus on events happening at school, and is treasured by the festival-loving students.

During the "Scale" event, which everyone is interested in, students wear either a white or black cape over their uniforms and have the Sakura of Thought Scale gather their thoughts. This has become a school rule.

The hot topic at school recently is whether this year's "KaKa Festival" should be a cultural festival or an athletics festival. In preparation for the "Scale" event, hosted by the student council, members of cultural and athletic clubs compete to secure a place to shine.

One day, Souma visits Lake Suikyou, and a "second cherry blossom" that has not bloomed in years shines brightly and blooms in front of him. He looks up and sees a girl falling from the sky along with the falling cherry blossom petals.

A boy and a girl meet, and fate begins to move.
