If an elementary school student suddenly asked you, "What is normal?", would you be able to answer right away?
The concept of "normal" in Japanese is universal, present all over the world, regardless of culture or language. However, it is not easy to think deeply about it and put it into words. This book aims to help you think about important themes in life, such as "normal," "rules," and "adulthood," which are common to everyone, and to communicate, share, and discuss them with those around you in Japanese, thereby acquiring "expressions and vocabulary for deep conversations" that are not often used in everyday conversation.
However, being suddenly presented with such a theme and asked to speak can be difficult, even in your native language. That's why this book begins with three short stories on each theme, evoking your own opinions and memories, such as, "This is how I felt about this part of the story," or "I have had an experience similar to this story." Students will then complete a variety of conversation-style tasks, such as summarizing a story, sharing their own opinions, thoughts, and experiences, and discussing with others.
Verbalizing and communicating opinions and thoughts can help students objectively reexamine their own thinking and broaden their perspective.
Please use this book to have in-depth discussions about the topic with your class.
