Hamilton gained prominence by providing accurate train times through its first pocket watch, the Broadway Limited. In 1914, it became an official supplier for the U.S. Army Air Service, and in 1919, it offered timing services for skiing competitions and the U.S. Postal Service. In the 1930s, it was also adopted as the official watch of several airlines.

During World War II in 1947, Hamilton temporarily halted consumer sales and produced nearly one million military watches, and in 1970, introduced the world's first digital watch, the Pulsure.
