Book, Letters from prison[LS]

The new edition of the book by Frei Betto, an icon of resistance and the fight against the military dictatorship in Brazil, brings together a series of letters written by him over the course of almost four years (1969-73) in which he was imprisoned. Previously published in Brazil in two separate volumes, with the titles Letters from Prison (1977) and From the catacombs (1978), both by Civilização Brasileira, the book now brings twenty unpublished letters, recently found by the author. A historical document of utmost importance, the work portrays the harsh trials to which political prisoners were subjected and shows new generations what the struggle of young Brazilians for the fall of the dictatorship and the redemocratization of the country meant.
