Language: Brazilian Portuguese. In the play "The Suspicious Wedding", written in 1957, Ariano Suassuna continues his project of creating an erudite Brazilian theater based on elements extracted from popular culture, also presenting, as a backdrop, a religious view of man and the world with a focus on the sin of lust.. The circus aesthetic, already present in "Auto da Compadecida", remains here, in the pair of characters formed by Cancão and Gaspar, direct heirs of the clowns who marked the author since childhood. Making use of stage business consecrated by the tradition of Mediterranean comedy, Suassuna reaffirms in this text his absolute mastery in the domain of laughable situations.
