Orthodontic brackets The brackets on the teeth have a slot and wings. The wire goes through the slot. The elastic is then passed over the wires and held by the bracket's wings. The elastic band holds the wires in place. Therefore, when the patient comes in for treatment, all the elastics are removed and replaced.
How is the elastic band removed and placed?
When you come in to visit, an assistant will seat you and then use the scaler to remove all your elastic. The orthodontist will then decide if a bend needs to be placed in your existing wire, or if the wire needs to be replaced. After all changes are made, use the hemostat to put the elastic back in place
