The Moleskine notebook is the heir and successor to the legendary notebook beloved for two centuries by artists and thinkers such as Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin.
The simple, black, rectangular notebook with rounded corners recorded precious sketches, scribbles, stories, and ideas long before they became famous paintings or popular novels.
Bruce Chatwin's favorite notebook, which he called "Moleskine," gradually became scarce in the mid-1980s, and eventually disappeared entirely.
In 1997, a small Milanese publisher revived the legendary notebook, choosing its nickname to carry on its special tradition of creativity and self-expression.
